As part of the implementation of the WA Mountain Bike Strategy, WAMBA, in partnership with WestCycle and Perth Mountain Bike Club, hosted a "Ladies Come and Try XC Racing" event on Saturday over the weekend.

This event coincided with Round 2 of the XC State Series held in Kalamunda on Sunday. The riders were provided the opportunity to complete the race course lap and receive race guidance from some of our current and awesome female XC racers - Toni BurbidgeStefanie Van Amerongen and Jo Bennett from Kalamunda Cycles.

Increasing participation within women and young people is one of the main objectives of the strategy and we are proud to be positively working towards achieving this, by building on the great work already done by Toni Burbridge.

Of the 18 ladies that participated on Saturday, 9 of those raced for the first time at the event on Sunday and this included some fantastic results (including some podiums finishes)!

Kalamunda XC State Series Round statistics:
2015 – 26 ladies raced
2016 – 42 ladies raced

Well done to all who participated on Sunday!!!!

A special thanks to Peta Demidenko, Mountain Bike Development Manager at WestCycle, who organised the event + thank you to Chatterbox Coffee & Juice bar for their lovely selection of yummy treats and Mark, the Bicycle Barista for having warm coffee on hand at the end.
