Background

The West Australian Mountain Bike Association (WAMBA) is the state representative body for the WA mountain bike community. A volunteer organisation, the Association works collaboratively with key stakeholders to identify, develop and sustain mountain bike experiences in Western Australia. It also acts as a resource for clubs looking for help on trail advocacy and grants, and co-ordinates the racing calendar.

WAMBA has evolved from a trail building and advocacy group with a heavy focus on the Kalamunda Mountain Bike Network, to a State Sporting Association representing the interests of all mountain bikers in WA. The 3-year strategy for 2015-2017 is well underway, and is supported by key partnerships with WestCycle, the Department of Sport and Recreation, and the Department of Parks and Wildlife. WAMBA is affiliated to its national body, Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA), and there are currently 14 WA mountain bike clubs affiliated to WAMBA.

WAMBA Secretary

The Secretary is responsible for the documentation and communication of the activities of the Association. They are the primary administration officer of the Association, and provides the coordinating link between the Association, its members and stakeholders.

Committee meetings are the last Tuesday of every month (occasionally subject to change), from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. The majority of the meetings are held at the Department of Sport and Recreation, 246 Vincent Street, Leederville.

The role will be well supported by the WAMBA committee itself and the many shared services available through WestCycle. The Department of Sport and Recreation provides regular opportunities to undertake Director training for free to State Sporting Associations, which committee members are strongly encouraged to attend.

NOTE: this is an interim position until April next year when WAMBA holds its next AGM. As per the constitution, all current committee members cease to be committee members at the AGM and are eligible for re-election.
