Have a passion for mountain biking and want to be a part of WAMBA's new future?

Nominations for the 2015/ 2016 WAMBA Committee are now being called. As per WAMBA’s Constitution, all current committee members cease to be committee members at the AGM and are eligible for re-election.

Assuming the Notice of Motion is passed at the AGM, an interim committee is being appointed until such time as WAMBA can change its constitution to allow for a new governance structure to be established. This change of constitution will take approx. 4-6 months. However, to allow for a successful transition from governance by a committee to WAMBA being governed by a Board and CEO, input from committee members will be required for a period after the change of constitution. Committee members will be eligible for election to the new WAMBA Board.

Positions available for election in the 2015/ 2016 Interim Committee are:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Club Engagement and Community Relations Coordinator
  • Government Engagement Coordinator
  • Management Council for Sport Development Chairperson
  • Management Council for Trails Access Chairperson
  • Management Council for Racing Chairperson

Organisation Chart & Position Descriptions

Available from the Secretary is an organisational chart with the position descriptions and some of the responsibilities listed – in line with WAMBA’s top 5 priorities for 2015/ 16:

  • Long term organisational financial sustainability
  • Relationships with clubs & groups
  • Agreements with main stakeholders
  • Trail development projects
  • Sport development (including junior development, high performance and state level events)

All roles will be well supported by the WAMBA committee itself, as well as the many shared services available through Westcycle.

If you’re not interested in one of the above positions, but still have an interest in and skills/ experience relevant to the development of mountain biking, trails development projects or racing events, you can nominate to be part of the general committee and join one of the management councils. Alternatively, you can elect to provide support for any of the other official positions.

There is also the potential for other sub-committees to be formed by interested members - provided they align with WAMBA strategic objectives within the key result areas of Leadership, Governance and Management; Participation; Trails, Facilities and Infrastructure; Capacity Building.

All members of WAMBA, and of all affiliated mountain bike clubs, are eligible to vote and thus have a say in shaping mountain biking in Western Australia.

For those members unable to attend the meeting in person and wish to vote, you may submit a proxy form which will be emailed out a week prior to the meeting.

More information on the John Hughes Slopestyle event can be found on the Event Calendar of WAMBA’s website.

Lotterywest supported

Great news for WAMBA and all its affiliated clubs . . . .

After reviewing their grant application processes, Lotterywest are ending the annual grant round application approach for Trails grants, and instead invite applications for these grants at any time. Previously these grants were managed via a “grant round”, with annual opening and closing dates for submission.

As of 31 March 2015, applications for Trails grants can be submitted to Lotterywest at any time of the year.

The 2015 WA Mountain Bike Events Calendar was released in mid-December in PDF format. These dates are now available in the Event Calendar of the WAMBA website. Included in the calendar entries is information about the event, location and links to the relevant websites and Facebook pages.

Along with the traditional categories of Cross Country, Marathon, Gravity Enduro and Down Hill, check out the new event categories of MTB Orienteering and Adventure - how about testing your mountain biking skills doing something a bit different?

Please note – these dates are subject to change.

Common Ground Trails are conducting a survey to gauge interest and to identify potential demand for an urban mountain bike development at Manning Park. If you live in the City of Cockburn or would like to see more urban mountain bike trails, please take a few minutes to fill out the survey below.

Survey closes on 13th February.
